Ice Hotel
It may seem like a joke or a prank of sorts but believe it for real, ice hotels do exist. Many adventurous people have stayed in a hotel made of ice, and the experience is so exhilarating that ice hotels are becoming increasingly popular among travelers. An ice hotel is a temporary hotel made up entirely of snow and sculpted blocks of ice as a form of novelty architecture. Their lobbies are often filled with ice sculptures, and food and beverages are specially chosen to help the guests beat the cold. All ice hotels will melt away during summer time and reconstructed during winter. You will find many ice hotels in places such as Sweden, Canada, Finland, Romania, Iceland and other cold places. The Ice Hotel Sweden is situated in the village Jukkasjärvi, 200 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle in Sweden, where the River Torne flows freely through unspoilt wilderness. Covered with a meter thick layer of ice during winter time, the river is the source of all materials and inspiration in the construct of the Ice Hotel. The pure water and the steady movement of the river create the clearest ice possible. The Ice Hotel Canada is located about 10 km east of Québec City, near Montmorency Falls and within the grounds of the Duchesne winter resort. It is the first ice house hotel in North America. In its last iteration it had 85 beds, all made of ice but lined with deer furs and covered with mattresses and arctic sleeping bags. Only the bathrooms are heated, in a separate insulated structure. All of the furniture is made of ice. It is also commonly know as the Quebec Ice Hotel. Other than this, Canada also offers the Lapland Ice Hotel. You will also find ice hotels in Norway. The Ice Hotel Norway is Europe’s northernmost ice hotel. It is located in the Finnmark region, approximately 250km from North Cape. The hotel has 30 rooms, including 2 suites. This ice hotel has a new theme every year. In 2004, it was the Vikings, with Norwegian fairytales the following year and in 2006, wild animals of the region. You can also visit the Aurora Ice Hotel or the 3 Night Hotel of Ice to experience different themes. This is a great chance for people to experience how it feels to be an Eskimo. But with the elaborate structure and excellent services, you are at worst an aristocrat of the Eskimo society. No wonder ice hotels are so hot. |
